HISTORY.

IDOR (In-iversial Development Of Ras Tafari) is a charitable organization rooted deeply within the Ras Tafari community of the DC-Maryland-Virgina (“DMV”) metropolitan region. Established with a commitment to communal development, spiritual unity, and global upliftment, IDOR has evolved into a beacon of collective progress and solidarity.

IDOR’s inception traces back to pivotal gatherings at Howard University in August 2003. It began as a visionary conversation among dedicated members of the Ras Tafari Family seeking to establish greater organizational structure, enhance communal resource management, and fortify collective security. These formative discussions aimed to support not just local Ras Tafari communities but also Ras Tafari communities globally, particularly in their aspirations toward repatriation.

Significantly, the founding of IDOR coincided symbolically with the Golden Jubilee—marking fifty years since the historic visit of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I to the United States in 1954. During his influential address to the U.S. Congress, Emperor Haile Selassie I highlighted America’s rapid acquisition of wealth and development, emphasizing the profound responsibility of nations towards collective security and global peace.

Drawing inspiration from His Imperial Majesty’s vision and teachings, IDOR adopted its guiding principles and objectives, thereby becoming a significant spiritual and communal development initiative within the nation's capital.

Mission and Objectives

MISSION & OBJECTIVES.

The I-niversal Development of Ras Tafari, Inc (“IDOR”) was established and incorporated as charitable not-for-profit community organization for the following purposes:

To promote, advance, and implement the teachings and life example of Their Ivine Majesties His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I, the 225th Negus in the line of King Solomon and Her Royal Highness Menen Asfaw as the means to restore the pride and human dignity of African people in Africa and through the Diaspora, and as the means through which the “legitimate aspirations” of the poor may be attained.
To promote and support the economical, educational, and social infrastructure development of the Ras Tafari community in Shashamane, Shoa Province, Ethiopia, Africa.
To promote and support the repatriation of Ras Tafari individuals and families to Shashamane, and the repatriation of Africans in the Diaspora to Africa generally.
To acquire, raise and allocate capital and human resources to assist in economic and educational developmental projects within the worldwide Ras Tafari community.
To collect, research, record, document, and preserve, Ras Tafari history and culture.
To promote and develop Ras Tafari community schools, institutions, and support organizations focusing on educational/vocational training and cultural/historical training and development.
To support and promote the artistic work, talents, and interest of Ras Tafari groups in the music, arts and entertainment fields.

Guided by the teachings of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I, Empress Menen, and the Ivine Order and Creed of the Nyahbinghi, IDOR harnesses the strength and resources of the Ras Tafari community. Through a structured organizational framework, IDOR endeavors to fulfill its mission of uplifting African people and promoting equality, justice, and peace for all humanity.

We (InI) at the Iniversal Development of Ras- Tafari ( here after will be named by an acronym IDOR) are individuals who work collectively and are committed in the achievement of specific goals and objectives, stated in the name of our (InI) organization; we (InI) are inclusive, transparent, innovative and collaborative- working with other similar institutions to create a centralized environment to accomplish the mission based on the mandate of H.I.M (His & Her Imperial Majesty’s)(The development of Ras Tafari peoples globally)

IDOR- membership; individual and collectively are open minded and respectful of others opinions and views.

IDOR and its leadership/members are determined and livicated to the mission statement; we (InI) value truth, love and right conduct, aligned to our majesty’s (Haile Selassie I and Empress Menen Asfaw) in their example of honesty, sincerity fostering connectivity amongst each other, while maintaining an ethical behavior and accordance moral principles, by making responsible choices adhering to the golden rule; treating others with respect while fostering a harmonious environment, showing empathy by avoiding actions or words that could cause emotional or physical distress.
