Elders Medical Project: Honoring Our Roots, Securing Our Future
The Elders Medical Project (EMP), initially conceptualized and launched as the "Ancient of Days" initiative, is proudly led and administered by IDOR (In-iversal Development Of Ras Tafari). IDOR, a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, operates primarily through the efforts and leadership of individuals of Ethiopian heritage, committed to the upliftment and empowerment of Ras Tafari communities worldwide.
Historical Origins and IDOR’s Leadership
Conceived and established by IDOR, the Elders Medical Project was meticulously planned, documented, and introduced by IDOR to the Shashamane community, including prominent groups such as Nyah Binghi, Bobo Shanty, and the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Through IDOR's foundational efforts, initial groups of caregivers were assembled to support the elders of Shashamane.
Integrity and Historical Accuracy
IDOR emphasizes the necessity for clarity and historical accuracy regarding its role and contributions to this project. Historically, African contributions and agency have been minimized or overshadowed in global narratives. The Elders Medical Project actively seeks to rectify this by highlighting its origins and ensuring proper recognition and documentation of all contributions and collaborations.
Global Partnerships and Community Collaboration
IDOR has strategically partnered with numerous individuals and organizations internationally to ensure sustainable growth and global impact. Notably, IDOR empowered the Seattle-based group Word Sound Power to support annual "Elder’s Fellowship" gatherings, enabling the elders of Shashamane to meet, celebrate, and receive tokens of appreciation from local and international communities. Despite past discrepancies in recognizing IDOR’s foundational contributions, IDOR remains committed to fostering unity, transparency, and genuine collaboration. The organization encourages continued support and participation from all international contributors and stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of honoring and preserving African agency and historical integrity.
Documentation and Transparency
IDOR has maintained extensive records of its involvement, including written communications, video meetings, project documentation, and elder testimonials. This ensures accountability and transparency, providing a factual basis for historical narratives related to the Elders Medical Project.
Moving Forward Together
Acknowledging the ongoing challenges around intellectual property, historical narratives, and financial empowerment, IDOR advocates for vigilance and active engagement in protecting African contributions and community-driven initiatives. The organization welcomes collaborations based on mutual respect, historical accuracy, and shared dedication to empowering and uplifting the Ras Tafari elders and communities globally.
